Jen

Jen (Founder) is a Criminology PhD Researcher with a focus on Policing, Race Relations and Critical Race Theory, with the view to centre perspectives from Black Communities. Aside from having roughly 9 years’ experience of working and volunteering across The Criminal Justice system, Jen also Founded The CrimiTalk (2016) – fulfilling her passion of supporting others’ through their Criminology journey.

Jen launched The Black Criminology Network in 2020 to assist Criminologists of Black heritage obtain the relevant opportunities and support to succeed in their careers.

Jen’s achievements include:

-Sharing expertise on an episode of MTV’s True Life Crime UK;

-Winning Birmingham City University’s 2021 Deans Award for contributing to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion;

-Winning the ResearchJam Conference Soapbox Presentation;

-Being a finalist for Black Owned Birmingham’s Educator of The Year for her work through The Black Criminology Network;

-Winning Criminal Justice Alliance’s Jack Merritt Legacy for Racial Equality runner up award for her contribution to The Black Criminology Network

Jen’s career goal is to consultant and advocate on policy making, to improve the existing tensions between The Police and Black Communities.
